Euphemism

A euphemism is a synonym for a substitute or understatement that is used to refer to things which people may find upsetting or embarrassing to talk about. It makes words, terms and phrases that are to harsh sound nicer and better to use in the everyday language. For example "to die" is formed to "to pass away", because "to die" sounds to harsh.

Irony

• the witting or unwitten instrument of truth

• efficient weapon of the satirist

• speaker says the opposite of what he actual means

Satire

• a form of comedy

• usually dramatic

• mostly based on exaggeration
