The Commonwealth

The Commonwealth of Nations, founded in 1931, is a lose connection of 53 states, which have been previously ruled by Britain in the 19th and 20th century. It includes all former British colonies, but also some states, which entered on a voluntary basis. Member states are for example Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Nigeria. Its purpose is to promote international coopertion and social development and to assure human rights in the member states.

With having Britain leave the European Union, the Commonwealth will take on a great impact and will gain more importance in Britain´s foreign policies.
