The German school system

In Germany, compulsory schooling is compulsory from the age of 6. From then on you go to primary school for 4 years, that is until the fourth grade. When you have finished primary school, you continue on to secondary school. This term refers to schools like grammar schools or comprehensive schools. Depending on how your certificate is in the fourth grade, a school will be recommended to you and you can then choose for yourself which school you would like to go to. The schools then use the certificate to determine whether you can go to that school. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, you will be taught there from 7:40 am to 12:50 pm, or on long days until 14:25 pm. At the school you are then from the 5th grade up to the 10th grade or at grammar schools up to the 12th or 13 grade. This corresponds to an age of 11-18 years. With the exception of the grammar schools, you have to complete a middle school leaving certificate in the 10th grade. However, if you want to take the Abitur, you will have to go to a grammar school. You need this Abitur to be able to study later and earn more money because of better jobs.

In Germany, the school system is a bit different in every federal state. All children come to primary school at about six years of age, which usually lasts four years. After that, the performance of the children decides whether they go to the „Hauptschule“, the „Realschule or to the „gymnasium“. An alternative is the comprehensive school, where you can complete all the degrees. Some high school students leave school after 9th grade and then they are looking for an apprenticeship . Some go to school for another year and can then obtain a better degree, e. g. a secondary school diploma. Real pupils go to school for ten years. After that, they have different options. Many are educated and spend three years learning a trade in companies and in vocational schools . Some secondary school students also go on to the technical secondary school and do the technical baccalaureate or they go to the Gymnasium or the comprehensive school. This is where schooling lasts the longest. At the end of the 12th century or 13. The Gymnasiasten make the Abitur class. This allows them to apply for a place at the university or university of applied sciences or for an apprenticeship.

Report of German School-System

Germany has a different school system than in other countries. It starts with us at the age of three in a „Kindergarten“. There you are three years and then you come to a primary school at age 6. In primary school you learn all basics. In the second to the third year of school, it starts with the search for the right secondary school. We have 4 different types of secondary schools. One is the Grammar school. At the end of the 4th school year, you will receive a certificate on which the achievements in the last school year of the primary school are written on it. Afterwards we go to the secondary school. This goes up to the Abitur (12 or 13 years). But there are also some who do not want to take their Abitur and graduate after 10 years.
