Hello Elias, it‘s very corious and interested. Some friends of me found gold in the American river near Secremento 4 weeks ago. Maybe all people in America know that. Here the hell is going on. Here are so many people they all want to find gold in the river and get rich with it. But only a few get gold. All the people got shovel‘s and water to clean the dirt. It looks very interesting. The dirt comes in a funnel and the bid rocks were sorted out. Then the water come over the leftover dirt and clean it. Than the dirts comes in a channel and there were sieves on the ground and the little gold nuggets hang there. It looks very exited.

I guess you heard from the Hippies in California. If you didn't, it's worth it. Hippies are young people who see no value in money and goods. They do not have an interest in opinion of others, neither they care about the opinion of their parents. They always wear colourful clothes and usually open and curly hair, even the men. It is fascinating to see how young people can think so clearly. They only hear musicians like Bob Dylan, The Mamas and the Papas. Hippies are also known for their openness in love and sex. They also take marijuana because they think it's going to make them more sprite-like. They are also opposed to the current war in America and their motto is "Make love, not war". I think it is so inspiring to watch people of such a young age who do not engage in the opinion of others and stand up for human rights, peace, openness and tolerance. I hope I can see them at some point and work for them. Hopefully we'll see you soon. Liv

Do you already know the hippies from San Francisco?

I really want to see them once. Hippies are young people who have their own special lifestyle. They wear brightly coloured clothes and grow their hair long even as a man. They live as one large family, take drugs like marijuana and protest 1955 to 1975 against the war in Vietnam. At this moment they have the famous motto “Make love, not war”. 100.000 young people have already attended the Summer of Love. I would love to go there too. All visitors should have flowers in their hair and the atmosphere there should also be just fantastic! They have a great taste in music and their clothes look really crazy and colourful. They are very important for encouraging civil rights, peace and especially tolerance and openness. The hippies have already done and changed so much in this world. I absolutely have to see them! Maybe you want to fly to San Francisco with me next month and see the hippies? I would definitely be very happy!

How are you? I’m fine and in this letter, I will explain you, why I want to go to California. I want to go to California, because I like Hollywood very much. Now, I tell you a history about Hollywood, ok? It was in the year 1900s and the American film industry started. Hollywood was warm and sunny all year. That was perfect for making movies. Hollywood was also close to lots of different scenery that could be used in films. In the year 1915, more films were being made in Hollywood than in New York. By 1920, this suburb of Los Angeles was the movie capital of the wold. Cool or? I would be happy if you write me back.

Dear Sarah,

How are you? Well, I am fine. So yesterday I made a big decision. I want to move to Hollywood and start a film career, not as an actor but behind the camera as a director. I know that it's very risky but Hollywood has the best requirements for making movies. Instead of Ney York, it's always sunny and warm the whole year. And California is near to so much different sceneries, like a dessert for western movies, or beaches for movies that take place in summer, or landscapes that are perfect for movies with Indios. I bet in not even 10 years it will be the most important place for the filmindustry in America and also the world. You probably want to know why I think so. A few days ago we reached a letter from my aunt Marie. She told us she went to Hollywood to get an actor a year ago and she already earned a lot of money. But she also said that it's getting harder and harder to be an actor, because more and more people know about Hollywood and they want to become an actor, but she said that nobody has thought about all the jobs behind the camera. And that was the main point for me, to go to Hollywood as a director. I already bought a ticket for a ship to California. The ship will start in one week. I will miss you, but i hope we will hold contact.

Dear Emily, I am writing this letter, because I would like to inform you about California and it’s well known Hollywood. But first I would like to ask you how you are. I’m very fine. I have been living in Hollywood since 1890. Hollywood was founded in 1903. I was 13 years old currently. More and more movies are being produced here. It became to an entertainment industry. Hollywood has always been good for filming: It was warm and sunny at the same time; not like New York and it has amazing places to film well. It is awesome… As a child I dreamed of becoming a big star or of meeting one of these stars, just like Spencer Tracy or Lana Turner. I just wanted to be like them. When I was 16 years old, I decided to participate in a theatre club and even attended theatre action group in school… I was just interested in acting! The year passed and I got older from year to year, but I didn’t give up one thing: the interest in the acting. In 1910 one of my wishes came true, I had applied to a movie industry a year earlier and they accepted me now. I was allowed to play a protagonist. “Frankenstein”, the horror-movie was called. Unfortunately it was the time of film music. The film became popular. And 5 years later…more films were being made in Hollywood than in New York. Incredible, isn’t it? Every year more and more films were produced and produced and became popular. I think so Hollywood is one of the essentials of California. It also led to…that in 1920, this district of Los Angeles was the movie capital of the world. Vital…vital…vital… I think it will always remain important alongside New York and other major locations…Now highlights include Paramount Pictures, historic concert stages such as Hollywood Bowl and the Dolby theatre (Oscar ceremony). Since I was in California the other day and I have been talking to people there, I want to tell you something about the fact that we can soon travel to California together. What interested me most was something about the hippies. They told me that it all started in the 1960s, that's where it really started. They also said that they are all young people walking through the streets listening to music. Their appearance was also different from ours, because they wore long hair, wide colorful clothes. Together they form a large unit and hold together about the same as we do. After the war the make an Motto which is: Make love, not war. So when we travel to California together we have to take flowers with us to tie them in our hair. Many also call it flower power. Many people don't want to call themselves hippies because they don't see it. But their lifestyle resembles these. What I'm saying now is peace out. If there's anything else you want to know, let me know.

how are you? I'm fine but it's pretty boring here at home. That's why I did a lot of research for the presentation on what we should be doing after the holidays. I have finally found a subject. And that's "Hollywood". I love Holliwood so much! Many of my favorite movies have been made. In 1900 the film industry started there and besides, there is always perfect weather. The sun shines every day. As early as 1920, Hollywood was named the film Capital.

I really want to go there. Maybe we're flying together? Well then still nice holidays.

The hippies are young people who shock their parents with their chosen lifestyle when they saw no attraction in the world of money and goods. Even the men have long hair and they all wear colourful clothes. They also listen to music like Bob Dylan and they live as one big family in communes. They experience with drugs like marijuana and protested against the war in Vietnam in 1955-1975, because one of their most famous mottos is “Make Love, Not War”. More than 100,000 young people came to their protest. For this reason Scoot McKenzie wrote a song about these hippies. In Future not many people will call themselves hippies, but their ideas are still carried on in songs or fashion and lifestyles. The hippies played a special role in civil rights, peace and above all tolerance and open mindedness.

How are you? I’m fine and I hope you’re good too! I’m sure you already heard something about California, right? I would really like to go there because there are so many interesting things you can see or visit there, especially Hollywood. But what does the name “Hollywood” make you think of? If I hear this name, I immediately think of movies and celebrities because it’s the center of the movie industry. But it wasn’t always like that and lots of things changed… formerly it was much less known and was surrounded by farms. In the early 1900s, the film industry started in New York but the weather wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t warm all year like in Hollywood. Hollywood was also close to lots of different scenery that could be used in films so it was perfect for making movies. For this reason, more films were being made by 1915 in Hollywood than in New York and it became the movie capital of the world. I think it sounds very interesting and it would be definitely worth it to visit this suburb of Los Angeles. What do you think about? Maybe we could go there together if you want to. I also hope I can meet and talk to you soon.
