In the beginning the author shows that Britain became a leading role when it came to creating the human rights in the 20th century. But during that accomplishment Winston Churchill killed "savages" in Sudan. Now, in times of the Brexit you can see that many britsh people feel hostile about refugees and ethnic minorities because of different problems. They also seem to think that they destroy their culture, that is meant to be without other skin colors. The minorities living in Britain feel less british and this controverse is reminding many of them of the past history. But the author names british traditions that only exists because of the Immigration. In the end he also claims that no one has a perfect past history and that he is not the same opinion like some politicians in Britain.

First the author mentions that the British became a leading role for the human rights. However, this reputation was damaged when Winston Churchill murdered “savages” in Sudan. That some British people today are still struggling with individual problems is good to see. So they demand Brexit to be free and independent. They also think that foreigners change or even destroy their culture and traditions, which is the reason they prefer the uniform white race. The author criticizes the British opinion. He claims that no country has a perfect past and add that Great Britain never was “thoroughbred” because some of traditions or food came from other countries like Portugal.

The author begins by writing about the leading role Britain got because of the human rights. They lost the rule when Winston Churchill killed “savages” in Sudan. In times of the Brexit you can recognize that a few Britain’s are against refugees and ethnic minorities because of different reasons. Their opinion is that they are destroying their culture because they do not have white skin like the Britain’s. They think the way to be independence and freedom is the Brexit. In the end the author criticizes the british people and the politicians because of their sight because no country has a perfect history.

In the first paragraph, the author talks about how Britain is one of the leaders in world trade but is also founded based on racist beliefs. The example of Winston Churchill is given who showed off his crimes concerning Sudan all the while being a leading figure in creating the international humanitarian norms which he still gets praise for to this day. Hirsch then goes on to explain her belief that Britain is going to leave the Council of Europe too. In the next paragraph, a survey is mentioned that states that more than half of British people feel hostile towards refugees and ethnic minorities or feel like their culture is being threatened. A quarter shares the belief that immigrants take away jobs and a third that they don’t contribute to society but instead take away from it. The following paragraph the author talks about British culture and how it is generally perceived as ‘white’. A lot of British people demand their country back, but few people mention wanting their country to be ‘white’ again. This is part of the reason why Racist attacks have grown in numbers again. Hirsch also mentions her own experiences with racism, she mentions one incident when a taxi driver told her that she would be ‘home’ soon. Then she mentions the Opinium poll, which states that British minorities are less likely to identify as British since the Eu referendum. Instead, they chose to claim their ethnic identity as their own. This is because of lacking protection offered at workplaces or by the police. The last is about how British culture is not exclusively white and does not exclude ethnic minorities by nature. As she mentions that a lot of British traditions do not have their origins in Britain. Such as fish and Chips which is from Portugal. Hirsch feels uneasy about the way patriotism is treated in England because of its reputation for being Xenophobic. She ends her article by thanking the people spreading hostility towards minorities and appeals to everyone to do so themselves.
