Assignments

  • Find at least five arguments for & against

- school uniforms

- using your smartphone at school all the time

- being allowed to drink (all) alcoholic beverages at the age of 16


  • Read TB p. 82 P1.b) and make sure you understand everything

(help: TB pp. 129 + 147)


  • Come up with an outline for a text about one of the three topics above


  • Write the text and have a look at it again after a day or two to spot mistakes as well as parts that can be improved


Advice & Tips

a) The introduction of a comment should be catchy and show why your topic is interesting. You should come up with a contrast or even a question:

- The advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms have been discussed by many people for a long period of time, but what do today’s students think about such uniforms?

- Everybody seems to agree on the negative effects of climate change. However, changing one’s own behaviour seems to be inacceptable.


b) When our TB or WB mentions "First point of view":

Think of arguments against your point of view/arguments you do not agree with


c) When our TB or WB mentions "Opposite point of view":

Think of arguments for your point of view/arguments you agree with


d) I know that German teachers like to teach you something about 'weak' and 'strong' arguments. You can stick to that if you want to.

I think spending energy on this is more or less a waste of time. An explanation would take up too much time and space here, so I will explain why when we meet again!
