Looking at language
I was offered the role. <-> Mir wurde die Rolle angeboten.
She has been promised a mobile for her birthday. <-> Ihr wurde ein Handy zum Geburstag versprochen.
The students were asked a lot of questions. <-> Den Schülern wurden viele Fragen gestellt.
Rule
In the German sentences there is a personal pronoun in the object form (dative) at the beginning of the sentence.
But the English sentences start with personal pronouns in the subject form.
