a) Californian gold

Hey,

I went to California, because there's lots of gold. Some guys have already found lots of gold and they're rich now. So bye.. I guess..

I hope I can come back one day, when I'm rich. I left my family, my house and all my other stuff. I didn't expect so many people. I thought there were just about 800 people, but there are already over 12.000 people!

I could buy a small house. I don't have much, but I hope that I will find some gold. My house is not near town, but they've already built lots of roads very quickly. I already started mining for gold. There are lots of goldfields, I have to find anything... just a bit gold. Anything! Maybe California will become the 31st state of the USA.

b) Early Hollywood

Dear Maik,

Today was an interesting day because I moved to Hollywood in California.

You don’t know what Hollywood is? Ok, I'll tell you what Hollywood is. Hollywood is an important place for the film industry. For a long time it was considered to introduce the film industry in California, but eventually the weather and some other things spoke for it.

For many films, it is important that you have beautiful weather, because then the shots are nicer. Or what do you think?

Also, you'll see it is nice here and that is a reason for you to come here. We had a great time when you came to me. And I could show you my new home.
