Chapter 1: In the first chapter (p. 5-7) of the novel Snakeman, written by Paul davenport a girl named Cathy Crosby goes to her third school in the past four or five years. The Portland High. She plays the part of the nice girl. Before the school starts she spoke to the homeroom teacher, Mr. Deedles and he asked her if she wants to introduce herself or if he should do it. She says that he should do it for her. She answers the questions of her new classmates in a quiet way. After the first period a boy, Jamie Hanson, asks if he could do an Interview with her because he works for the school newspaper. She agreed and met him during lunch. She answers his questions about her school history and hobbies. After they finished he asks if maybe she wants to work for the school newspaper too. She says that she has to think about it.
Chapter 2: In the second chapter the school day ends and everyone heads to their lockers and by the time Cathy found her locker nearly everyone left. As she opened her locker she felt an unpleasant presence behind her so she took her jacket and slowly turned around. Behind her stood a tall guy he had eyes that were nearly the same as from a snake. He grinned but it wasn’t a friendly grin. First he didn’t say anything he just stared at her. Then he said that from now on she was a member of his club. She was confused and said that she didn’t signed up for any club. But he answered that he had done it for her and that he knew who I really was. Every member of his club has to pay five dollar every week. She didn’t want this and so she responded in a sassy tone. And then he said that she didn’t want that something happens to me or my brother. So she tried to kick him between his legs and expected him to wince in pain but instead she was the one who winced because he wore a cup. Suddenly she felt weak and gave him a five dollar bill and he left. Then she walked home.
Chapter 3: In the third chapter Cathy comes home from school she didn’t want to tell her brother what happened so she just said what didn’t let her look suspicious. Until her mom came home she asked if she should tell her about her “little problem” or not. She didn’t tell her. She listened to what her mother had to say and went to her room she sat down and thought about how she could deal with Snakeman. At the end she thought of a strategy.
Chapter 4: In the fourth chapter Cathy payed the last few weeks. She decided not to resist and it worked well but she had the feeling that something changed. One day she wore a necklace that she became a year ago from her mother. Snakeman asked about it but she lied and said it wasn’t real and that she had it since she was a little girl. He forced her to give it to him so he could give it to a friend because he will test if the necklace really wasn’t real. She gave it to him and at home she thought again about her little problem. Later that day Jamie called her and asked if she had decided what she wants to do. After a little convincing from Jamie she accepted.
Chapter 5: In the fifth chapter Cathy has to go to meet the principal but before she enters she thinks that maybe he could also be a part of Snakeman’s club. During the appointment the only thing they are doing is small talk. Dr. Callahan was nice but Cathy has a strange feeling about him. The feeling was because every time she hinted to her problem he pulls on his tie and clears his throat.
Chapter 6: In the sixth chapter Cathy observes everything exactly in the next days. She makes a list with those she could trust, with those she couldn’t trust and these those she weren’t sure about. She tells Mr. Black that her necklace was stolen, so he asked if she told this the principal and he was relieved. As soon as Cathy leaves his office she crossed his name off the list of those she could trust.
Chapter 7: In the seventh chapter Cathy tells her mother the truth about her necklace and that she spoke with two other pupils and one of them showed her marks because she was punished by the Snakeman. She was on Cathy’s side and respects Cathy’s wish but they decide that they aren’t going to tell Mike about this because it would be too much to handle.
Chapter 8: In the eighth chapter Cathy continues working on her list of those she could trust and it grows. She concentrates on her classmates and her own teacher. She enjoys working for the newspaper and often had to stay longer with Jamie. He asked her if she wants to go canoeing on the river and she agreed. When they were canoeing they come into a storm and a tree next to them begins to burn the panick and fall into the water. They swim to the shore and after a short break they begin canoeing again. When they were finished they stand at the shore and suddenly Jamie kisses Cathy and she is very happy about it.
Chapter 9: In the ninth chapter the Snakeman shows Cathy her tattoo and asks her if she had ever thought of getting one too. She says yes. He says that a chopper would look good on her and asks if she ever drove with one. She lied and says yes but that was a mistake because he trappers she and now she has to drive with him on his Harley.
Chapter 10: In the tenth chapter Cathy drives with the Snakeman on his chopper and it was already dark and he takes her to a mountain. On the mountain were two other people, Dr. Callahan and Mr. Black she called to them for help but they didn’t move. They go along a path and he says that he owns Portland High school and forces her to kiss him. He took of his helmet but she could only see a head of a snake. She begins to run but he is faster than her and wraps himself around her. Then she hears a voice and it was all a bad dream so she encourages herself.
Chapter 11: In the eleventh chapter Cathy tells Jamie everything about her problem and that she wants to write an article about him and his organization. Jamie doesn’t think it’s a good idea because the editor wouldn’t want to write something negative into the schools newspaper but he agrees that both of them are going to speak with her.
Chapter 13: In the thirteenth chapter Cathy reports about her date with the Snakeman. She shows Jamie a tattoo and after Ophir left they start argue about why Jamie sided with Ms. Southerland. Jamie would like to know what he can do to get back together with Cathy and she anwers that he has to change Ms. Southerland’s opinion.
Chapter 14: The fourteenth chapter is about how the talk between Jamie and Ms. Southerland went. Jamie tells Cathy that he wanted to cancel his job as editor but thet Ms. Southerland wanted to keep him because he was the best she had ever seen. Jamie decided that they are going to release a special edition without Ms. Southerland’s permission.
Chapter 15: In chapter fifteen Jamie and Cathy built a group of 12 people that support their idea with the special edition. Six of them are staff members and the others where bodyguards. Jamie explained the plan and soon they started their plan with a big success. After their action Jamie and Cathy have to go to the principal but they don’t know the reason.
Chapter 16: In the sixteenth chapter Cathy and Jamie are sitting in front of an angry principal and an even angrier Ms. Southerland. Not long after Jamie should have explained why they printed the edition the principal received a call from the mayor and suddenly he wasn’t angry anymore. They heard that the police was called and that there was going to be a press conference.
